Sep 15, 2006:

As all previous versions of SniperFox are now officially broken on all eBay sites, we are releasing the next Beta as both full and demo versions. This is an emergency measure to provide our customers with the way to avoid losing out on closing auctions. Some functionality we hoped to include in the full version is still not available, but will be added in the next couple of days. Here is the list of new features included in the Beta:
  • Faster bidding - the average time to place one bid is now 1.5 times faster
  • Better benchmark - synchronization with eBay clock is no longer required. SniperFox will always stay in sync and should not miss the end of an auction anymore.
  • Partial "Buy Now" and "Dutch" (multi-item) auction support - bidding / buying these auctions does not currently work, but at least they are parsed correctly and can be added to the list
  • Partial Thumbnail support - thumbnails are downloaded for each auction, but not yet displayed
  • Private Auction support - bidding in private auctions should work fine now
  • Seller ID - it is now possible to sort auctions by seller ID
  • Comment field - it is now possible write comments for individual auctions

Please let us know of any problems so we can make fixes as soon as possible.

Major Code Update in Progress

Sep 15, 2006:

A new Beta 1.0.6.40 is out for a spin. It fixes the reported login problem on Windows 2000. The login failed with the message "Unable to check login status: HTTP Error 406 (::HttpSendRequestFailed)". The fix is available.

Sep 14, 2006:

A new Beta 1.0.6.30 is available. It includes a number of fixes related to login issues reported in yesterday's Beta.

Sep 13, 2006:

3:07 PM: We've fixed two login issues reported to us within the last 20 minutes. Please download version 1.0.6.22 and try again.

The new Beta Demo version is now available for you to try. We are forced to release it before completing all the features and testing because the previous version of SniperFox is now completely broken (using Canada as location no longer helps). Expect bugs. The "Buy Now" and "Dutch Auction" features do not currently work. They'll work once we release the full version in a couple of days. The new working features are:

Sep 11, 2006:

We've hit a slight delay in releasing the new version of SniperFox. Our testing of the Beta version has uncovered a number of problems that need to be resolved before the program is released to our customers. The release is still expected to come out within a few days. We've managed to improve bidding speeds, reliability and synchronization significantly as a result of recent code modifications.

Sep 3, 2006:

The new release of SniperFox is just around the corner. Due to the large number of changes to address the recent eBay site format alteration the release will be Beta stage. In addition to fixing the bidding / parsing problems, the new version will contain a number of new features, such as:
  • Thumbnails - thumbnails for each auction item will be created for easier auction management
  • Support for Buy Now auctions - An extra button was added to the action column for "Buy Now" auctions
  • Support for Private auctions - SniperFox is now able to correctly address bidding in auctions with hidded bidders' ids
  • Comments - A new field now allows to add personal comments for each auction
  • Seller ID - A new field now contains the id of the auction's seller

Aug 22, 2006:

Important: The breaking change seems to affect the US eBay site only. If you are currently having problems with SniperFox parsing items or logging in, please switch to Canadian or other site as a temporary fix while we are rewriting SniperFox code.

Aug 21, 2006:

Due to some major changes recently done to eBay page structure we are currently re-writing a large portion of our SniperFox code. We are working as fast as possible to handle all the possible new scenarios introduced by eBay. It is possible that, meanwhile, some of SF users may experience login, synchronization and item parse problems. Please let us know if this happens.

Since we believe in quality releases over a patchwork of fixes, it will take us up to the end of next week to complete the current changes and thoroughly test them. The new version will also have a number of new features implemented from the list of most frequent requests by our clients. We'll notify you of the new version as soon as it comes out.

SniperFox 1.0.3.1 Is Out!

Aug 7, 2005: This version of SniperFox introduces a large number of improvements:
  • Mozilla FireFox Extension - Now using SniperFox with Mozilla FireFox is just as easy as it was for IE users. A convenient button is added to Toolbar Palette, from where it can easily be inserted into any FireFox toolbar. Clicking the button adds an auction to SniperFox list- not more copying / pasting!
  • Shipping Options - SniperFox has been improved to parse Shipping Options for an auction. This allows to easily see the total amount to be paid for any item, not just the current bid.
  • Improved Network Benchmark - Precision of SniperFox has been improved to just half a second! This means SniperFox can reliably place bids just a second before an auction closes (if network speed permits). Network benchmark results are conveniently shown as a color by a Network Meter, displayed in the bottom right corner of application window. The "Allow Bids" dropdown list shows approximate second equivalents for each of Bidding Period choices.
  • Manual Bidding to Maximum - For advanced user's conveninece now it is possible to manually place a maximum bid. Simply click the Bid action button while holding SHIFT.

SniperFox 0.9.6.0 Released - 3x Faster Bidding!

Mar 10, 2005: This version is adjusted to recent Canada, UK and Australia site changes that caused problems in signin and bidding steps in version 0.9.5.x. A large number of features was modified and introduced:
  • Bidding is now up to 3 times faster! - A number optimizations were applied to bidding submission step that effectively reduced Bidding Period (time required to place one bid) by a factor of 3 on average! This means faster, more precise sniping, greater chance of placing a winning bid and a definite edge over other sniping applications
  • Notification & Reminder System - Notification dialog boxes were replaced with balloons to avoid interrupting (blocking) program operation when something happens. Each auction now has a notification log beside its number- Important Message Icon shows up whenever there is a message of importance. Reminder and Tip balloons show up on important milestones in the program's operation. Balloons are now Windows 98- compatible.
  • Synchronization with eBay clock - A greater sniping precision is achieved by synchronizing with eBay clock after signin step.
  • Automatic Update Checker - SniperFox will now notify the customer whenever a new version is released. A list of important changes will be presented to used along with the link to download the new software version.

eBay Definition Files Updated

February 12, 2005: Recent changes at the US eBay site caused SniperFox to parse current bid / number of bids incorrectly. To get the fix, uninstall, reinstall and re-activate your SniperFox- this will automatically update the definition files.

SniperFox Basic 0.9.3.11 Released!

January 28, 2004: This version provides some new features plus a ton of bug fixes and bidding improvements. Among notable new functionality changes are:
  • Quick-Access Actions - Small buttons for quick manual bidding / refreshing are now available right on the auction row
  • Optional Incremental Bidding - User now has a choice to place bids in small increments instead of placing Max Bid right away.
  • Growing Bid Increments - If "Optional Incremental Bidding" is used, SniperFox will use greater bid increments with each attempt when it is being outbid. For example, for small bids increments will be $1, $1.5, $2.25, $3.4, etc.
  • Improved Bidding Performance - More bidding special cases are handled. In some cases bidding becomes 1.5 times faster due to eliminated unnecessary refresh step.
NOTE: Recent changes on US eBay website have rendered previous versions of SniperFox unoperational. Please upgrade as soon as possible.

SniperFox Basic 0.9.0.227 Released!

November 14, 2004 A long awaited follow up version to the popular sniper application is finally here! This revision of SniperFox introduced a large number of fixes and additional functionality. Among the most notable new additions in functionality are:
  • Auction Organizer - auctions are organized into a convenient tree structure of groups with as many levels as desired. Each group can be instructed to restrict the number of auctions that can be won under it. This is very useful when, for example, you'd like to buy just one Sony DVD201 CamCorder, while maximizing your changes of a successful snipe using five possible auctions that sell the item. This would be achieved by putting all five auctions into the same group and restricting the number of wins for that group to 1. Bidding for the group would automatically stop as soon as one of the five auctions is won.
  • Sound Notifications - now SniperFox supports playing specific sounds when something important happens. Whenever some event of importance occurs (such as final countdown, auction win and auction loss), a sound is played to catch user's attention. Sounds can be turned on/off, or custom sounds can be supplied through Settings.
  • Archiving - in addition to deleting closed auctions, user now has a choice to archive them automatically at a chick of a single buttom. Archived items are put into a time-stamped group for future reference.
In addition to the changes above, a host of other minor functionality changes were made, such as "drag-n-drop" support for auction organizer. A large number of critical bugs were fixed, such is invalid remaining time and inability to sign-in
All in all, SniperFox is continually becoming a better experience. There are plans to keep on adding features up to version 1.0. Among the planned changed are: Advanced Statistics (yearly, monthly, weekly, daily financial summaries and estimates of money saved), Cell-phone and e-mail Notifications and many more.

SniperFox Basic 0.8.2 Released!

August 24, 2004: SniperFox is a simple, precise and efficient sniper application designed to simplify eBay bidding while making sure a client pays the least possible amount for his/her items. With a few clicks a virtually unlimited number of eBay auctions can be added for sniping. The items are constantly monitored by SniperFox until the last possible moment before bidding closure. At the last possible moment (depending on the network speed), SniperFox springs to action and bids on the client's behalf, preventing a possible bid war and driving the closing auction bid amount down by 30% on average!
